Processing of timber

Only selected boards that have been seasoned for years in the open are used for the construction of a Blthner. Staple rails between the layers allow the air to circulate freely thus assuring even maturing.

Picture 1:
The seasoned timber is cut into strips to take out the inner tension. It is then glued together again to serve as surfaces.

Picture 2:
All parts are made in the Blthner factory to ensure the special quality of the instrument.

Picture 3:
The timber is seasoned in a computer-controlled kiln to a final moisture content of 8%. This slow and careful process ensures the intactness of the cell membranes in the timber necessary to allow the fast transmission of vibrations.
